Basic facts about Štrba |
The village is situated at the foot of the High Tatras, in the
high of ca. 900 meters above the sea level. The distance from the
district town of this region ( Poprad ) is only 17 km. |

Winter skiing |
In
winter, several ski centres are available. There is a ski lift
right in the village, and there are two in nearby Tatranská Štrba,
suitable mainly for beginners and children. For more experienced
skiers, we recommend the ski centre in "Areál snov" (Dream site)
at Štrbské Pleso (14 km), where the FIS international sports
centre with ski jumps and cross-country tracks for top world ski
championships is situated as well. Behind the distinctive village
of Liptovská Teplička in the Low Tatras, there is a well built ski
centre with POMA lifts, and with beautiful view at the panorama of
the High Tatras. Experienced skiers can visit the ski centre in
Jasná in the Low Tatras (50 km). |

Summer tourism |
In summer the
object of interest of the visitors is first of all the High
Tatras. From Tatranská Štrba a cogwheel railroad extends to
Štrbské Pleso (1355m), a popular mountain center with
a fascinating view over the surface of Štrbské pleso at the
closest peaks: Solisko (2301m), Patria (2203m), and the most
beautiful massif of the High Tatras-Vysoká (2560m). From there,
it is possible to get through less demanding walks, for example
to the Skok Fall in Mlynická Dolina, or to Popradské pleso.

The more indolent visitors will be brought
up to Solisko by a chair lift. There is also inexhaustible
number of mountain tours to the mountain lakes, passes, and to
the Tatra peaks here. Mountains climb may only be comleted
with a mountain guide. from Štrbské Pleso, the Tatra tram
extends to all Tatra villages. Among the most commonly
visited, Starý Smokovec and Tatranská Lomnica rank. Walks in
the Tatra forests may be livened up by collecting wood
products ( except for the area of the Tatra National Park
).The National Park of Pieniny /60km/is well-known for its
unique attraction of a cruise on wooden rafts in the opening
of the Dunajec river in the length of 7 km.The National Park
of Slovenský Raj, with a number of passes and falls, is also
very close to the area./35 km/

Stalactive and stalagmite caverns; Važecká jaskyňa /7 km/,
Demänovská jaskyňa /40 km/ - the pearl of Liptovský kras,
Belianska jaskyňa /40 km/ - on the way to the distinctive village
of Ždiar. |

The culture sights |
Poprad /18 km/ is the administration centre of the High Tatras.
There is a Gothic church of 1245, and a museum with rich
collections from all around Spiš. Spišská Sobota / a part of the
town of Poprad / has municipal sight reservation with the Gothic
Temple of Sv. Juraj. A historical town of Levoča has a number of
historical buildings and the Tample of Sv. Jakub is the largest
wooden altar in the world. /18 m/ Nearby the Spiš Castle - the
largest one in central Europe is the Spiš Chapter, the residence
of bishop with the Roman-Gothic Temple of St. Martin. Kežmarok,
the treasure house of Spiš, has a municipal sight reservation with
the Renaissance Thokoly Castle, of which written history starts in
1251. An interesting sight is the wooden Evangelic Enunciation
Church, made without any nails. |

The swimming and water sports |
There are thermal swimming pools in Liptovský Ján /30 km/, Vrbov
/30 km/, and Vyšné Ružbachy /45 km/. The indoor swimming pools are
in Svit /6 km/, Poprad /18 km/, and at Štrbské Pleso FIS and
Patria hotels./13 km/ Liptovská Mara-water reservoir/50 km/, is
suitable for windsurfing, yachting, and fishing. |
